RAMADAN IFTAR PROGRAM
Over view
The significant flow of arrivals in Bay is a continuation of a displacement trend that was first observed in July 2022, when the Bay region received 40 per cent of new arrivals, compared to only 2 per cent in June 2022.This increase of displacements from and within Bay region is occurring in the backdrop of a projection of famine occurring in two districts of Bay (Baidoa and Burhakaba) between October and December 2022, unless humanitarian assistance is rapidly scaled up. The decrease in movements toward Banadir region (11 per cent compared to 28 per cent in August) and increase in movements toward/within lower Juba region are new trends (22 per cent against 7 per cent of the displacements in August).
Our responsibilities
As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, I am writing to propose a program to make iftar
for a vulnerable community. This program aims to provide food to those in need during
Ramadan, particularly those who are unable to afford or prepare iftar for themselves.
The program will consist of the following components:
Identifying the Community: We will first identify a vulnerable community in our area,
such as low-income families, homeless individuals, or refugees. We will work with local
organizations and mosques to identify those who are in need.
Food Preparation: We will prepare iftar meals in a commercial kitchen or at a local
mosque. The meals will consist of a variety of nutritious foods, including dates, water,
fruits, and other dishes.
Delivery: We will organize volunteers to deliver the iftar meals to the identified
community. We will ensure that the meals are delivered in a timely and safe manner,
following all necessary life protocols.
Community Engagement: We will also aim to engage with the community, building
relationships with those we serve, and providing a space for conversation and support.
Sustainability: We will explore ways to make the program sustainable beyond Ramadan,
such as partnering with local organizations, mosques, and businesses to continue
providing food to the vulnerable community.
We believe that this program will not only provide much-needed food to those in need during
Ramadan but also offer a space for community engagement and support. It will also allow us to
live out the values of Ramadan and make a positive impact in our community.
Our Aim
For Muslims throughout the world, the sacred month of Ramadan is a time of great spiritual
significance. Because it is celebrated during the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar,
Ramadan begins at a slightly different time each year. This coming Ramadan might start on the 23nd March 2023, and Muslims are required to fast during the daylight hours throughout the month.
